Steel for worm and laminated springs thickness up to 7 mm for trucks and railway vehicles, safety washer plates, coiled springs.
Physical properties (avarage values) at ambient temperature
Modulus of elasticity [103 x N/mm2]: 210
Density [g/cm3]: 7.80
Soft Annealing
Heat to 640-680oC, cool slowly in furnace. This will produce a maximum Brinell hardness of 245.
Normalizing
Temperature: 830-860oC, air.
Hardening
Harden from a temperature of 830-860oC followed by oil quenching.
Tempering
Tempering temperature: 350-550oC, air.
Forging
Hot forming temperature: 1050-850oC.
