Applications
Steel grade used to produce plate-, ring-shaped and helical springs for railway vehicles.
Physical properties (avarage values) at ambient temperature
Modulus of elasticity [103 x N/mm2]: 210
Density [g/cm3]: 7.85
Soft Annealing
Heat to 640-680oC, cool slowly. This will produce a maximum Brinell hardness of 240.
Normalizing
Heat to 850-880oC, cool slowly.
Hardening
Harden from a temperature of 830-860oC followed by oil quenching.
Tempering
Tempering temperature: 400-550oC.
Forging
Hot forming temperature: 1050-850oC.
