Description
Cold work tool steel. Air or oil hardenable steel with good machinability and high toughness.
Applications
Cold heading dies, hobbing punches, checkering diesm cutlery dies.
Physical properties (avarage values) at ambient temperature
Modulus of elasticity [103 x N/mm2]: 210
Density [g/cm3]: 7.87
Thermal conductivity [W/m.K]: 30.0, 31.2 (at 350oC), 31.8 (at 700oC)
Soft Annealing
Heat to 610-650oC, cool slowly in furnace. This will produce a maximum Brinell hardness of 250.
Stress Relieving
Stress relieving to remove machining stresses should be carried out by heating to approx. 650oC, holding for 1-2 hours at heat, followed by air cooling. This operation is performed to reduce distortion during heat treatment.
Hardening
Harden from a temperature of 840-870oC followed by air or oil quenching or warm bath quenching 180-220oC. Hardness after quenching is 59 HRC.
Tempering
Tempering temperature: See the data bellow.
Tempering Temperature (oC) vs. Hardness (HRC)
