Description
Tungsten-chromium hot work steel suitable for water cooling.
Applications
Water cooled dummy blocks for the extrusion of copper and copper alloys, hand casting chills for copper alloys.
Physical properties (avarage values) at ambient temperature
Modulus of elasticity [103 x N/mm2]: 210
Density [g/cm3]: 7.80
Soft Annealing
Heat to 820-840oC, cool slowly in furnace. Holding time 4-6 hours. This will produce a maximum Brinell hardness of 230.
Stress Relieving
Stress relieving to remove machining stresses should be carried out by heating to 650oC, holding for one hour at heat, followed by slow cooling. Time is 1-2 hours. This operation is performed to reduce distortion during heat treatment.
Hardening
Harden from a temperature of 960-1050oC followed by water or oil quenching. Hardness after quenching is appr. 52 HRC (water quenching), 47 HRC (oil quenching).
Tempering
Tempering temperature: 560-700oC.
Nitriding
Possible. Preheating before use: 200-300 oC, absolutely necessary.
